Graduation Ceremony 2021

Mr. Jacob Friedl won the Andritz price for the best Bachelor basic studies.
Mr. Jelle Schuivens received the Palm Award for the best Master degree.

At the end of the summer semester 2021, the graduates of the German Bachelor study course “Verfahrenstechnik Papier und Biofasern” (translation: Paper Technology and bio-fibres) and of the English Master study course in “Paper Technology”, took their leave from the Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences.

Due to the COVID restrictions the usual annual ceremony could not be held. This typically consists of festivities that includes family members and invited guests from industry. However, it was important to us to recognise the graduation of our students. Therefore, a cordial meeting in one of Munich’s famous beer gardens was organised instead.

Munich City Museum

“Between art and beer, Munich is like a village between hills.” ~ Heinrich Heine

With the class „Intercultural Communication“ of the Master Paper technology a group of international students visited the Munich City Museum. It was far from just about city building. Among the highlights were typical Bavarian specialties as well as very old figures carved out of wood that look as if they were still dancing today. Nevertheless, they have also learned a lot about the old town and that only three of the four town gates still exist today. The visit was a nice end of the subject for the students. Now it’s time for the well-deserved semester vacations.

Paper from asparagus fibers

Every spring we look forward to it. The asparagus, whether with hollandaise or with pancakes. Nevertheless, the white stalks have to be peeled every time and at least a third of the good asparagus ends up in the trash. That doesn’t have to be the case. After two years of research in the lab at Munich University of Applied Sciences, there are results – the first asparagus paper has arrived. Would you like to learn more? Siemens Energy · Online Workshop 2021

As part of the automation course taught by Mr. Tobias Kleemann, students from the Paper Technology Master’s programme of the Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences, have successfully completed the Siemens SIPAPER DCS online workshop 2021. With the SIMATIC PCS 7 training and the SIPAPER DCS APL overview the audience gained valuable experience in basic programming, software implementation, hardware configuration and plant layout in the PCS 7 system. Siemens PCS 7 or similar control systems are in use in all modern paper mills or power plants. Click here for the complete article.

Potential of agricultural and forestry waste as environmentally friendly raw materials

The principle is as simple as it is ingenious. Waste from agriculture and forestry can be reused. This is how adhesives are made from waste wood or biofuel from straw. However, it is important to take a holistic view in order to avoid undesirable pollutants. You can read more about the EU research project and what to look out for in this type of reuse here

Cellulose in use against CO2 emissions

nature, earth, sustainability

Vigorous research is being carried out to remove unavoidable CO2 emissions from the air. This is how CO2 emissions can be removed from the air in the long term. The Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg, the DITF Deckendorf, the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg and Mercedes-Benz AG in Sindelfingen have now addressed this issue in a research project. Cellulose fibers seem to be the salvation. You can find the full article here
